How I can help
Therapy comes in many forms.
I offer the following, empirically based, approaches:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A current focused, goal-oriented, approach that explores the links between, thoughts, feelings, physiological reactions and behaviours. Particularly useful for people who feel stuck in cycles of unwanted thoughts and behaviour. Often used for short and medium term work.
Compassion-focussed therapy (CFT)
An approach based on a combination of cognitive based psychology, evolutionary psychology, Buddhism and neuroscience. The primary goal is to build a more compassionate self.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
An intervention that uses mindfulness and acceptance strategies together with commitment and behaviour change strategies to increase psychological flexibility.
Person-centered therapy
A humanistic approach to therapy that is relational and non-directive in style. This approach aims to help the client identify the blocks that are preventing them from moving towards their full potential.
Psychodynamic therapy
A longer term approach that focuses on the psychological roots of emotional suffering. The goal is to help clients understand the role of their unconscious on their current behaviour.
Equine assisted therapy
An experiential form of therapy involving interaction with horses. This may include walking, grooming or problem solving tasks. This is usually offered in small groups can be done on an individual basis. The goal is for the individual to learn more about themselves and their own patterns of relating.
